Mission, Vision, and Core Values

Mission Statement:

To Know Christ and To Make Him Known

Hillandale Baptist Church believes that it is not enough to know “something” about Christ. We must invite Him into our lives and begin to know Him spiritually and personally. True Christian character arises out of having Christ alive within us. Thus, the first part of our mission statement is based on the following:

To Know Christ

Philippians 3:8-14

Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish that I may gain Christ and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith, that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings being conformed to His death, if, by any means, I may attain to the resurrection from the dead. Not that I have already attained or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold on me. Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended, but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

The second half of our mission is To Make Him Known. By reaching out to others, we share with them how Jesus Christ has made a difference in our lives and that He is our Risen Savior.

To Make Him Known

Matthew 28:18-20

And Jesus came and spoke to them saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

Vision Statement:

Hillandale Baptist Church has been called by God to serve this community for His glory. Because Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior, we commit to be a living and active spiritual body, of redeemed and reconciled saints, determined to be used as vessels of honor, by courageously walking by faith, in Jesus Christ, in every way that we serve Him, to make disciples of everyone He sends.

Core Values:

Core values are revealed in the daily behavior of people. What we truly value is mirrored in our behavior in the workplace, in the neighborhood, on the playground and at church. As one commentator observed: what we do speaks so loudly that it drowns out what we say to the contrary. The foregoing list reflects what our church and what, we believe according to Scripture, we should value as people of God.

Love God as revealed in Jesus Christ. A sincere love for God transforms our lives into a way of life in which Christ is clearly at the center.

Matthew 16:13-1822:37-38

Love each other as revealed by Jesus Christ. Just as Christ loved people of all ages, races and nationalities, so we are to love each other and our neighbors outside the church with the same active compassion.

Matthew 22:39Romans 12:9-21

Commit to deep spiritual growth that we may know Christ, the power of His resurrection, and lead a purpose-driven life. In order to grow in our relationship with Christ, we must give ourselves to worship, prayer without ceasing, deep Bible study, and discipleship training. This will result in the fruits of the Holy Spirit increasingly reflected in our behavior: Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self-Control.

Philippians 3:8-14Hebrews 10:23-25I Thessalonians 5:17Galatians 5:22

Share Christ with others. Let others know of the reality of Christ through our own experience and be trained to explain the plan of Salvation when the opportunity arises. We also support local, national, and international missionary efforts.

Matthew 28:18-20John 3:5-8I Peter 3:15

Serve with humility and gladness. Be a diligent servant of Christ by cheerfully serving others.

Psalm 100I Corinthians 15:58II Corinthians 9:7Galatians 6:9-10

Give generously of your time, talent, spiritual gifts, and money for the common cause of God's Kingdom.

Embrace diversity. We are uniquely formed and gifted by God to reach all people.
